Kona Postcard Mandala

Kona Postcard Mandala / 2012 / Terry Long

Travel always inspires me, from walking the dog around the local neighbourhood, to a trip further afield. Kona is a coastal district on the west side of the big island of Hawai’i, and became my place of inspiration last week during my stay there. Normally I am ladened down with camera equipment, with several large camera bodies, and a array of lenses, plus other important accessories which I end up not using! This time was different, with just a Canon S95 pocketable camera, plus charger and spare battery. This freed me up to clamber about the rugged terrain and obtain images that I would have normally missed, even though there are drawbacks to not having the professional equipment with the more powerful telephoto lenses. The mandala image was created back in the studio using LED lights to paint with. The finished mandala was then superimposed over the background photo and made slightly transparent to give a floating feel, plus given a drop shadow. If your thinking of visiting Hawai’i, you may want to check out the website  below.
