Painting to Music

Bagatelles Sketch Book No.1.e
 Digital Sketch Book, Bagatelles No.1 / Prismography / 2014 / Terry Long

One of the strongest influences on my work so far during the MA Digital Fine Art Course that I am currently taking at the University of Art London, has been the music that I have listened to, and have been inspired by during the process of creating my work. I have long considered music to be one of the most powerful of art forms due to the strong emotional feelings that it can impart. The music I listened to while working on the above digital artwork was Gerald Finzi’s Five Bagatelles. I have also conducted many sessions using selected music for my art therapy work over the years and have found music to be a very important healing component for patients and participants. Careful consideration has to be taken when choosing each piece of music for the various situations. To creat Bagatelles No.1 above, I used crystal prisms and sunlight to paint with, and several digital layers to build up the composition, plus a watercolour filter to give the painterly effect. The painting process was recorded on a Nikon D700 digital SLR with a Nikon 85mm 1.4 lens. The post production was completed with photoshop.
