Chasing Rainbows

Whirligig No.1.e
Whirligig No.1 / Prismography / 2014 / Terry Long

Living in Southern California means that there is a good chance of strong sunlight at the break of day, but I have to work very quickly to utilize it. I have a special set-up in my studio for painting with prisms that lasts for about one hour before I lose the sun. Even though there is limited time, I much prefer the natural light to the studio lights when working with prisms. The painting process for Whirligig No.1 was recorded with a Nikon D700 SLR digital camera mounted with a 8mm lens.

  1. I did not set out to evoke that period of art, but after completing my art piece, I also had a similar feeling to you. I studied art, and the history of it during the 60s in London. I now teach it at a local university here in California, so it should be no surprise that these historic artistic styles resurface in my work. Thank you so much for you interesting comment.
