Prismatic Pastoral

Prismatic Pastoral / Prismography / 2014 / Terry Long

Unlike traditional oil, acrylic, or watercolour painting, using crystal prisms to paint with is a bit hit and miss, and I am constantly experimenting to find different approaches and techniques, such as multiple prisms to fragment the light, blocking the light to introduce shadows and dark values, and also changing the angle of the canvas, or picture plane. At some point in the near future I will have to write a book! Prismatic Pastoral consists of eight painted panels. I used the alchemy of several digital filters to create the finished effect, including watercolour (my favourite), fresco, and solarize. The painting action was recorded on a Nikon D700 SLR digital camera using a Nikon 85mm 1.4 lens on a timed exposure.
